But I was still more than happy to donate despite having swiftly avoided a freezing cold bucket of water being poured over my head.

While holidaying for a few days in Ibiza last week, three of my friends took part in the craze, all the while I lay shivering after catching some sort of holiday bug.

My guess is that the only reason I wasn’t nominated was because, in the end, they felt too sorry for me. However although I managed to keep dry, I made sure to send my donation — all the while chuckling away at all the freezing poor souls online.

One of the personal favourites included watching my coffee-making slacker colleague, Sean Rooney, pictured, get drenched for the craze. However, as much as I enjoy cackling menacingly at the victims taking part, I also want to give big round of applause to everyone who helped boost the cashflow of many vital charities.

Just like the bare-faced selfie challenge a few months back, it is a simple act which also helps to raise awareness of the importance of fundraising.

Although it is already facing backlash — if it raises millions of pounds for charity — then why do we have a right to grumble?

Yes, the continous stream of videos on our timelines can be annoying, but what is that compared to the millions of pounds they have helped to raise?

And for all the celebrities who took part in the phenomenon for publicity, I see no harm done as it ultimately encouraged others to join in.

The money is going towards a cause that could help save the lives of hundreds of people, so it’s time we lightened up and stopped our whingeing. So what if it’s a publicity stunt, or a ‘gimmick,’ it’s fun and it’s part of a good cause.

After all, it’ll be over and done with before we know it and the next craze will no doubt come hurtling along before we even get the chance to dry our ice bucket-soaked clothes. I predict that the next challenge will be all the more extreme than this one. If that’s the case — just hand me the bucket now.
