ST Mirren manager Alex Rae says he will force his players to sit through a replay of their Hamilton horror show on Monday morning to stop a recurrence of the mistakes made in the 3-0 Betfred Cup defeat on Saturday.

Goals from Ali Crawford, Dougie Imrie and former Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati gave the Premiership side all three points in a humbling afternoon in South Lanarkshire for Rae's side.

The Buddies were not without their chances but fell well below par and Rae won't be letting his players forget about it in a hurry.

He said: "It's a good education for them because on Monday morning they are going to have to sit and watch it through again.

"I'll be able to show them it and it is my job to educate them. I have shown the players analysis week after week since I came here.

"It's important that they learn from it because they don't want to play in the Championship their whole career."

Rae was disappointed by the manner in which Saints conceded, they had Jamie Langfield to thank on a few occasion for keeping the score respectable.

The Buddies boss has urged his players to cut out the errors which were duly punished by their top tier opponents.

He added: "I said to the players before the game that it was a step up in class, with respect to the team's we have played against.

"If you don't track runners at any level you get picked off.

"For the first goal the wide man doesn't track him back. The second one is a give and go and the third one we don't track the left back, it is very basic football.

"If you don't do the basics right especially against a team that is technically very good you get punished."
