Members of Elderslie Wallace Bowling Club have been making the most of the fine weather to get out on the green.

The club prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive club - offering a warm and relaxed welcome to members and guests alike.

Before the summer holidays started, Elderslie provided coaching for schoolchildren on Friday afternoons and on Monday they were due to welcome a Flexicare group for a game of bowls.

Willie Killens, club secretary, said: “We’re lucky because we have a good playing surface and are known throughout the area as a friendly welcoming club.

“Elderslie is a fully integrated club. Several years ago we rewrote the constitution so we don’t have lady and gents members, we just have members and everyone has the same standing in the club. In relation to how it used to be it is quite different.

“You have got to be forward thinking. The persona of bowls is people in a jacket and tie and that is off-putting to those who just want to come down to play. You don’t people to be under the perception it is fastidious and you want be open to all to participate.”

Club competitions are in full swing with one or two at a more advanced stage due to the run of good weather.

The club is also holding a charity day next month, following the success of last year’s event which raised £600 for Sense Scotland and respite centre Weavers Linn.
