TWO of Scotland’s biggest sports stars were on hand to help launch Bishopton Rugby Club’s new season.

Jonny Gray and Ryan Wilson, who both play for the Glasgow Warriors, joined club members at their annual Royal Bank Rugby Force Day as they set about preparing their facilities for the new season.

Work has been taking place at the club to re-size and move the pitch, raise new goalposts and update other facilities, including the previously unused third changing room.

More than 30 volunteers of all ages went along to join Scotland aces Jonny and Ryan, putting in plenty of hard graft as they painted, dug and cleaned the site.

In between the hard work, the VIP visitors gave a rugby masterclass to players from Bishopton’s youth academy.

Jonny and Ryans, who have 80 Scotland caps between them, put the kids through a number of handling and tackling exercises.

After that, it was time for Jonny to take the ladies team for a training session, while Ryan taught the kids a number of rugby tricks that are sure to come in handy.

Afterwards, both players treated all of the club’s members to a special question-and-answer session.

This was a further chance for Jonny and Ryan, who both turned out for the national side at the 2015 World Cup in England, where Scotland reached the quarter-finals, to offer some tips to the stars of the future.

And the day coincided with six months since the formation of the Bishopton ladies team, with the club still keen to welcome new players.

After the event, delighted organisers said it had showcased what “makes the club great.”
