Thorn Athletic moved into round three of the South Challenge Cup with a five-star performance against Giffnock on Saturday.

Craig Morrison put the hosts ahead just after the half-hour mark when he picked up a loose ball before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into the net.

Cheik Cissoko headed Thorn's second before Giffnock pulled one back early in the second half.

Euan Rodger’s deflected free-kick restored the two-goal margin and Jacob Shields put further daylight between the teams by scoring a penalty.

Matty Munro completed the scoring for the Johnstone side to set up a third round tie with Threave Rovers next month.

Thorn will be hoping for a change in fortunes against the Dumfries side, who came out on top in both fixtures between the teams last season on their way to earning promotion to the Third Division of the West of Scotland Football League.

Next up is a trip to Fourth Division bottom dogs Saltcoats Victoria this Saturday, with a 2pm kick-off at Campbell Park.
