Renfrew manager Jimmy Quigley praised his team's second half performance after they returned to winning ways against Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday.

A penalty from Ryan McManus had Rutherglen ahead at the break but the home team turned things around after the restart.

Jojo Gillespie found the net on his debut to bring Renfrew level just after the hour mark and, a minute later, they took the lead as Andrew Skinner netted.

Another penalty was awarded after 71 minutes but, this time, it went the home team's way, with Gillespie scoring from the spot.

Skinner then joined his team-mate in bagging a brace to seal the points with seven minutes remaining.

Martin McBride pulled one back for Glencairn late on but it was no more than a consolation as Renfrew moved up to seventh spot in the First Division.

Quigley was delighted to make it three wins from their last four games.

He told Gazette Sport: “Glens started the game well and in a different shape from us but we changed the shape to match them up and were dominant after that.

“We scored four really good goals, so I’m pretty pleased overall. It was a great performance.

“It was great to see Jojo get on the scoresheet on his debut and Andy is always a threat. The change of shape brought Jojo into the game a wee bit more.

“The substitutes made a massive impact for us as well. We brought Ben McLernan on and he set up three of the goals and the other boys shored us up.

“The strength in depth we’ve got now is really pleasing.

“I’ve got nearly everybody back, with only two missing, whereas a few weeks ago, I only had 12 players fit.

“Having everyone fit and fighting for places is bringing up the standard of training.

“The boys all know they need to perform when they get that 10 to 15-minute spell to keep them in my thoughts.”

Renfrew travel to Kilwinning Rangers this weekend, with Quigley hopeful his players can take confidence from Saturday’s showing and upset another promotion contender.

He added: “We’ve played everyone now apart from Shotts, so we know we aren’t that far away from anyone.

“The Glens beat us 2-0 earlier on in the season and now we’ve beaten them 4-2, so it should give us confidence going forward that we know we can beat these teams.”

Kick-off at Buffs Park on Saturday is at 1.30pm.
