JOHNSTONE Burgh assistant Eddie McKim admits his side will just have to deal with the impending midweek fixtures as they bid to finish a disappointing season on a high.

With the Keanie Park side facing at least eight games between now and the end of April, Burgh will begin playing midweek fixtures as of next week.

However, with players juggling work commitments, training and playing at weekends, McKim conceded it will be a big ask of the side to perform consistently two or three times a week, four weeks on the bounce.

He said: “Games will kick off of around half past six to allow for enough daylight to finish the matches.

“That’s all well and good in theory but the way the fixtures work we may have to play three games in a week then another two the following and that is a lot to ask of lads who will have worked a full shift during the day, only to have to play a match later that night.

“Some of these games will be at the other side of Glasgow so a few of the guys will have to try and get away from work early in order to make it to the match on time.

“Obviously work commitments have to take priority and if people can’t get away then that puts the squad at a disadvantage but you can’t blame anyone for that.

“There may be games when we have turning up right on the whistle, straight from work and that may cause problems but we will deal with that if it comes to it.” With only one league win all season McKim admitted survival was always the goal this season before he and George Walker hand over the reins to a new management team in the summer.

With time quickly running out, McKim stressed it is now a matter of keeping the club in a good position for the new managers.

He added: “Before the season started we just wanted to stay up, consolidate our position and hopefully add a quality player or too.

“Obviously it has proved to be a difficult year and we have struggled for any sort of momentum but hopefully we can finish the season well and see what happens.”
