COLIN Clark admits Renfrew were lucky to still be in the tie come half time on Saturday – but was delighted with the way his side battled back to a draw with Port Glasgow.

New signing Scott Arthur netted on his debut to hand ‘Frew a point in their opening Sectional League Cup tie but Clark stressed the match could have been over by the interval.

He told Gazette Sport: “The first half was very scrappy and we struggled to get going.

“In all honesty they could have been three or four behind come half time and Port Glasgow missed a few chances to score but credit where credit is due the boys battled back well in the second half.

“Port provided us with a good test and we did well to come back into the game and get a draw.” Arthur became the latest signing for Renfrew as they look to reinforce last season’s squad which was relegated to the Central District First.

With the league finally getting underway on August 30, Clark admitted the club’s journey in the transfer market is pretty much done.

He concluded: “The squad is there or thereabouts, we are settled so hopefully we can now use the rest of the Sectional League Cup to get a run going.”
