THREE wins on the bounce, sitting rosy at top of the league and some new strips thrown into the bargain, Renfrew boss Colin Clark couldn’t hide his delight as his side continued their fantastic start to the season.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ashfield was only the latest in a line of good performances and the ‘Frew boss admitted he couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the new campaign.

He told Gazette Sport: “Yet again on Saturday we managed to grind out a good result.

“It was fairly similar to the week before where we went behind and had to come back to grab the win but we always looked the stronger of the two sides and I’m delighted with the way things are.

“We created a number of chances and in first half and we could have scored three or four had it not been for some poor finishing.

“To be fair they helped us with a dodgy pass back and a penalty but they all count and I don’t think anyone could say we didn’t deserve the three points and I am delighted with the way we managed to get another three points.

“Hopefully we can keep this run going for as long as possible.” The victory was made all the more pleasing with Renfrew missing three players for the visit of Ashfield.

However, Clark highlighted it as a positive as it showcased the strength in depth his side now have this season.

He added: “In previous seasons we have probably lacked a few numbers and I would say we are probably still short of a few for the size of squad that we would like.

“Having three guys missing heading into the game was obviously a bit of a blow but the guys we brought into the side played very well and are of good quality.

“Our keeper Dale Burgess was on holiday so we brought in Mark Baird and he played very well so it just shows that we have cover all over the park.” And Clark reserved special praise for match winner Scott Arthur.

The striker arrived at Keanie Park from Vale of Leven in the summer and has hit the ground running with goals in each of ‘Frew’s victories so far this season.

He said: “Scott is getting a few goals, probably because he is our penalty taker but he is putting himself about and creating a number of chances.

“Scott and Jamie Benton look like they have the makings of a potential partnership — they are still getting to know one another and how each other play so they can only get better.

“Jamie has also been fantastic at the start of this season and hopefully the pair of them can get themselves on the scoresheet on a regular basis.”
