Players and coaches at the charity’s branches in Erskine and Renfrew held a Wear It Purple week last month, as well as offering players the opportunity to pie or soak staff at the charity in return for a small donation to the fundraising cause.

And amazingly, all down to the kind-hearts and efforts of everyone involved the group managed to raise £397.47 for Yorkill.

The players were on hand at the Church of the Nazarene last week to present William McGowan, Yorkhill fundraiser, with a cheque to put towards good causes.

William said: “The ethics behind React Basketball fit in well with the values of Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

“These ethics and values allows for the best opportunities and treatment for the children. Yorkhill greatly appreciates charities such as React Basketball who take on fundraising events that further enhance the work that we do as a charity to further enhance the lives and treatment of children.” The Yorkhill fundraiser is only the latest in a long line of work React has done in the community. Only in December they held their own foodbank, collecting produce to distribute for those who need it most.

Josh Anderson, chairperson of React, says it is fantastic to help those in need.

He told Gazette Sport: “It has been an overwhelming experience fundraising for Yorkhill Children’s Charity. The work that they do to aid ill children is beyond outstanding.

“React Basketball has a number of values which we try to instill in our members and its great to see another charity like Yorkhill who support and even share in the values that we have.

“We at React Basketball are extremely pleased to have been given this opportunity to support Yorkhill and we wish them every bit of success for the future.” Cllr Sam Mullin, Labour representative for Erskine and Inchinnan, also attended the cheque presentation.

He said: “I myself strongly believe in what React stands for and what they believe in, it is a lesson for the children, especially at fundraising event such as this.

“There is a lot of Respect given by the staff and young people at React which is something that is lacking within our communities.

“Through the work of React Basketball and fundraising events like this, children and young people are taught invaluable lessons on how they should treat those around them.”
