The weakened side, missing regulars in Andrew Farmer, Matt Clark and Gordon Stevenson, made the trip through to Bishopbriggs to take on Glasgow.

However, the side’s strength in depth was evident for all to see as they managed to battle to victory against a side also missing two of their own top players.

Team captain Ronnie Clark met an in form Barry Hume, a past Scottish Amateur champion who also made it to the semis in this years championship. Hume drew on his experience to see off the challenge of Clark as the Glasgow side looked to continue their own unbeaten start to the new season.

Michael Daily and Craig Watson responded well with solid wins to put Renfrewshire back in control but Bonnyton’s Willie McMillan could not cope with Ralston’s Blair Dalglish, who produced a fine display to follow up on his success at this year’s Youth Championship.

Undetered, Renfrewshire bounced back yet again with victories for David Dickson and Renfrew’s Craig Pirie — but current Renfrewshire champion David Macfarlane lipped out at the 18th to lose one down to Haggs Castle’s John Brown.

That left David Millar, three down after only five holes to Craig Anderson of Sandyhills, with the challenge of fighting back for the half point required for victory — and David did just that with a brave performance.

Renfrew will host the next tie in the league between Renfrewshire and Stirlingshire. Renfrewshire are now on the look for their third consecutive win.
