A TALENTED Kilmacolm side recently battled it out for the ClubGolf Junior Masters title at Blairgowrie Golf Club.

Connie Dodds, Alison MacNab, Charlotte McCluskey and Ladies European Tour professional Vikki Laing carded an overall 110 to finish tied seventh on the leaderboard.

The final began with a quickfire opening in the typically miserable conditions for the 19 sides vying to be crowned the Masters champions.

However, the weather did little to deter those playing the Rosemount course — which hosted the Junior Ryder Cup only last month.

The JRJ team of Jamie Dobie, Hamish Brown, Rory Thain and PGA professional Robert Farrell were the eventual winners, carding an overall 117 to come away with the trophy.

They were followed by the Dumbarton side of Lorna McClymont, Ashton McLean, Maria Docherty and PGA pro Colin Fisher — 10 points adrift in second place.

Tour pro, Vikki Laing, said: “I had a lot of fun with my team today and they played really well.

“I remember meeting and playing with pros as a junior and it was a great incentive for me to see players from your own country doing well. It makes it more real when you’re young.

“I was totally inspired today and I look forward to seeing the next generation of golfers.” ClubGolf chairman Bill Buchan and Blairgowrie Golf Club managing secretary Douglas Cleeton presented the prizes.

ClubGolf manager, Jackie Davidson, said: “Congratulations to all the young golfers who took part in the qualifying heats and today’s grand final, especially to the winners.

“We would like to thank all the professionals, SGU and SLGA players who teamed up with the juniors, Blairgowrie Golf Club for hosting the event and the parents for their ongoing support.”
