Eighteen-year-old Jack Carlin helped Great Britain to bronze medal in the 2015 UEC Under-23 and Junior European Track Championships in Athens last week — leading to Hoy praising his efforts.
Following a solid start to the day the team were placed in a ride off against their French counterparts for a place on the podium.
An impressive ride from the team meant the team managed to finish 0.162 seconds ahead of their rivals after three laps as they clinched their spot on the podium.
The trio of Carlin, Alex Joliffe and Jo Truman had originally placed fourth in qualifying to earn a place in the the ride off with the French team who were 0.243 seconds faster over 750m.
Hoy took to social media following the podium finish, lavishing praise on the youngsters by tweeting: “Congrats to the jnr lads winning a teamsprint medal at Euros in Athens yesterday! Next generation coming through.” It was a successful competition for Great Britain as they extended their success in the men’s under-23 individual pursuit.
Mark Stewart finished in seventh place overall in a time of 4.27.089 seconds, while Great Britain’s Jake Kelly crossed the line in 15th with a time of 4:33.184 seconds.
Joe Holt, Matthew Bostock, Ethan Hayter and Reece Wood narrowly missed out on a place in the men’s junior team pursuit finals when they clocked 4:11.680 to place them fifth overall.
