A BODY has been found near Bridge of Weir just hours after police appealed for help to find a missing man.

Police had issued a plea for information on the whereabouts of 35-year-old David Letham after he was reported missing from the Foxbar area of Paisley.

Tragically, police confirmed that a body had been recovered in woods near Bridge of Weir at around 2.40pm today.

Police have said the death is not being treated as suspicious and the family of Mr Letham has been informed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that around 2.40pm on February, 23 February, the body of a man was recovered in woods near Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of David Letham, reported missing earlier today, has been informed.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but the death is not believed to be suspicious. As with all sudden deaths, a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

Police also confirmed that the incident was connected to the discovery of a car that had been abandoned in a river next to Hattrick Farm, which is to the north of Bridge of Weir, at 10.22am today.
