A THIEF has tried to steal a forklift truck from a recycling centre in Linwood.
The incident in Middleton Road is believed to have taken place at around 7.50pm on Monday after the crook gained entry to the premises.
It is understood the forklift was started using a screwdriver before the gates were forced open.
Police said the vehicle, which was later recovered around a mile away, is now undergoing forensic examination.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether anything else was taken from the premises or damaged.
Inspector Allan O’Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "It's obviously unusual to see a forklift being driven on the road at night, so if anyone has seen the vehicle or the person driving it, please get in touch."
Anyone with information should call officers on 101.
