A MAN has been arrested in connection with an alleged theft in Renfrewshire.

The 25-year-old suspect was spotted by a CCTV operator acting suspiciously in Smithhills Street, Paisley, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers promptly arrived at the scene and reportedly found the man was in possession of a bag containing items believed to have been stolen.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, of the community policing team, said: "Thanks to the observations of the CCTV operator and the quick actions of the police officers, this male was arrested prior to committing further crimes.

"The suspect was in possession of items, some of which have yet to be identified as stolen property.

"I'd like to ask local residents to report any break-ins to their vehicles or homes to enable us to identify the property and return it to its rightful owner."

The suspect was taken into custody and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.
