FIRE crews were called to a blaze in Johnstone last night.

They arrived at the scene, near Canal Street, at around 9.30pm and managed to extinguish the flames before anyone was injured.

Dumped items, such as mattresses and household waste, are understood to have been damaged in the fire.

Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and Renfrewshire Council have been contacted so the debris can be cleared.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: "Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene where a large pile of rubbish was alight against a three-storey building.

"Crews worked to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

"There were no reported casualties."
