A nationwide campaign is set to shine a light on the people at the heart of their communities.

Scotland Loves Local Week will return from Saturday, August 23, with activities planned across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

This year’s theme, People Make Places, will celebrate individuals and businesses that help shape and support their communities.

Organised by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) and supported by the Scottish Government, the event will feature activities including social media campaigning and political visits, designed to highlight the transformational impact of supporting local businesses.

Residents are encouraged to participate and help champion the message: "Think local first".

The campaign aims to promote support for neighbourhood businesses and community initiatives in a bid to strengthen the local economy.

Kimberley Guthrie, chief officer at Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), said: "People are at the heart of our places, driving the ideas, projects and development that will breathe new life into communities across the regions and throughout Scotland.

"Scotland Loves Local Week is the chance to shout about the great things that are happening where you live – and the people whose innovation, determination, and dedication make Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire the great places they are.

"Whether it be the team from the family business which has been part of the community for generations, or a trailblazing development, this is a chance to highlight why it's so important to get behind what they are doing to create better places – all the while supporting the jobs of the people around us."

Scotland Loves Local is a broader movement that encourages residents to back businesses in their area.

By choosing local, STP argues that people can help inject millions of pounds into the regional economy while building "stronger and more sustainable" communities.
