Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim said he "couldn't be much happier" with Saturday's Kyle Lafferty-inspired win over local rivals Renfrew.

Former Rangers star Lafferty was a standout performer as he helped his new side to a 4-0 victory in his debut in the First Division of the West of Scotland Football League.

Ross McKenzie and Dale Simeon were also on target for Burgh at New Western Park.

McKim said: "I could not have asked for much more from the players.

"We are still gelling as a team at the moment and it is going to be a slow process but we've gone away from home in the first game of the season and managed to score four goals, keep a clean sheet and collect three points.

"I am delighted with it."

The Burgh gaffer was particularly happy with the contribution of his new high-profile signing, who has been capped 85 times for Northern Ireland.

He added: "Kyle has taken part in three training sessions now and is getting to know his new team-mates quite well."

Missing from Saturday's derby was the club's other big-name signing – former Scotland midfielder Graham Dorrans, who is serving a two-match ban.

But McKim expects him to be in the squad for this weekend's game away to Whitletts Victoria.

He is also expecting a good crowd for Wednesday night's match at home to Drumchapel United, with Lafferty set to play at Keanie Park for the first time.

McKim added: "Kyle and Graham are top players and top guys. The experience they bring is huge.

"Hopefully we can use that to our advantage."

McKim is also relishing the fact Burgh will be a big scalp for opponents in the division.

"We don't feel pressure, we feel excitement," he said.

"Renfrew came out on Saturday and tried to be physical and aggressive but you are going to have to bring more than that to the party if you want to beat us these days.

"We now have a healthy mix of youth, experience, talent and aggression."
