Police investigating a rape in Elderslie have issued a fresh appeal for information days after the attack.

The 27-year-old woman was attacked while she was walking along a footpath between Byres Road and Glenmalloch Place, near to Wallace Primary, at around 8pm on Monday.

She was approached by a man who struck her, causing her to fall over. The fiend then subjected the woman to a serious sexual assault.

Police have said the suspect is described as white, aged between 35 and 50, of medium to stocky build and with dark hair that is receding on top.

At the time, he was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt.

Detective Inspector Louise Harvie said: "As part of this ongoing investigation officers have carried out a full search of the area.

"As a result of these enquiries it has been established that the woman’s trousers are missing.

"Officers are therefore asking local residents in that area to check their gardens and bins for any item of discarded clothing which they don’t recognise as belonging to them."

Police have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are gathering CCTV footage from around the area in the hope the rapist was caught on camera.

They have also said dog walkers may hold the key to snaring the sex beast.

Inspector Harvie added: "The man responsible must be traced and I would re-appeal to anyone with information that may assist this ongoing enquiry.

"If anyone saw a man in a light-coloured t-shirt in the area around the time of the attack, or witnessed someone acting suspiciously please come forward to police.

"I am aware that this incident is concerning to the local community, however I would like to reassure them that additional officers are patrolling the area and anyone with any concerns should speak to officers."

Anyone with information that may assist, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact Paisley Police Office through 101.
